This work is made in celebration of the humble yet essential painters' stirring tool.
In the studio I find that specific tools and utensils become established as anthropomorphic 'favorites'.
Stirring sticks show the marks of their use and unconciously carry the history of previous work on their surfaces. When I walk the tidelands of Dungeness beach, I occasionally encounter other discarded or misplaced 'well handled dippers' bearing the mysteriously beautiful traces of previous toil. I consider them to be - 'Neptune's treasures'.
Stirring sticks/dippers are suggestive of - Honest work, paint, physicality, colour and the handmade object.
This evolving project is on show in our Open Studios and is now available to purchase as single prints or in sets.
